FACT SHEET

The Access 2020, Race to Success is a racing event in which ten teams of six, race around the metropolis against other teams, with each team shall have three Persons with Disability (PWD) who is physically fit to join the game. We are inviting Teams from private corporations, companies or government agencies. The game is spearheaded by Tahanang Walang Hagdanan as one of its advocacy project in partnership with government agencies and other NGOs to realize mainstreaming of PWD and at the same time a dry run on the compliance of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (UNCRPD). The game will evolve around raising awareness on mainstreaming of PWD, health, society, accessible tourism, and healthy environment.

The game will initially take place in the metropolis where most of PWD are engaged in different activities and where most of the city parks, recreational areas, business establishments, transport system, and offices have already complied with BP 344 known as “Accessibility Law”. After piloting in Metro Manila, the activity will be replicated in other nearby provinces and tourist spots to continue raising awareness on the rights of PWD and promote accessible tourism.

MECHANICS

There are planned out locations, pit stops and tasks that the racers will do and travel. Each team shall be accompanied by volunteers to document and take footages as they race around. Prior to the event, the organizing team shall hold orientations to the different teams on the rules of the game.

1. There will be a symbolic run before the kick off on December 3, 2011

IMPACT OF THE EVENT
  1. The society will understand disability issues and support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disability. 
  2. That PWDs have to be integrated in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life by breaking the barriers in the physical and psychosocial aspects of the society we live in.
  3. The environment becomes friendly towards PWDs.
  4. That the transportation, schools and information technology becomes accessible to disabled people so that PWDs may be able to fully participate in social development
  5. That PWDs need employment and income to be able to live a sustainable and quality life.
  6. That it will promote the environment, society, and tourism of the Philippines;
  7. That a large number of people, including PWD, are doing its share for the development of our country.
